Gibbs Farm

Our creative director, Sam recently visited the stunning Gibbs Farm sculpture park at Kaipara Harbour, about an hour north of Auckland. Here’s a few pics from what was an incredible day.

Best Awards Night 2016

Last Friday the South team joined the rest of the New Zealand design community at this years Best Awards night, held at the Viaduct events center. It was an amazing night as we were up for 12 awards across a variety of categories. Every one of our projects was recognised on the night with The International and At Your Request taking home three gold pins between them.

Oyster Capital Shoot

Earlier today we partnered with local photographer Alistair Guthrie to capture a set of brand images for a recent client – Oyster Capital. The shoot involved an early morning, a few extra layers and a Robinson 44. Here’s some of the behind the scenes action.

DINZ Open Studio at South

On Thursday night together with The Designers Institute, we opened our studio doors to the Auckland design community, giving them a sneak peak and insight into what makes our studio tick. Cheers to all those who came out. A big thanks to Fish Fish and Rochfort Rees for supporting the night with nibbles and drinks.

Flags of Peace

With our current national flag under the microscope we were very intrigued by the Flags of Peace project from Trapped in Suburbia. The project asks the questions: What defines peace? How should it be symbolised? And what must a peace flag achieve? Designers from 40 countries were initially asked to participate including New Zealand's own Dean Poole. It's fascinating to see how some of the worlds best graphic designers tackled the task of designing a flag, considering how poor the options New Zealand has to vote on for our country's new flag. Designs range from the minimal and restrained to the outright psychedelic (we're looking at you, Anymade Studio). Check out all the designs.

November Playlist

With our workload at this time of year getting busier and busier we've put together some of the music that's been keeping us going. Beginning with some heavy hitting tracks from the likes of Drizzy and Travi$ Scott, we then mellow things out with some tasteful R&B through Janet and Kelala. It's Friday, turn up! Click here to listen.

We recently got our hands on 'The Paper Book' from Arjowiggins which contains a complete collection of papers from all of its brands. Designed by the brilliantly named studio, North. Each sheet contains a minimal description printed in a metallic silver ink that lets the paper speak for itself. Thanks to B&F Paper for the hook-up.

South Launch

Clients, new and existing, media, suppliers, partners, friends and friends of friends joined us on the 23rd of July to celebrate the launch of our newly named studio. Everyone who attended became part of our rebrand experience through an interactive installation created from illustrated cards. The triangle illustrations ranged from the extremely clever to the highly inappropriate. We loved them all! The drinks and nibbles were also outstanding, thanks to everyone who made the night possible.

New website

After months of designing, debating and photographing both new and old work, we've finally got our shiny new website online. A big thank you to the boys at General Studios – Brad and Josh – for their tireless work on accommodating our countless design tweaks.
